Last season’s colour—hope for this year

Colour from Hydnellum aurantiacum

A tray of dried Hydnellum aurantiacum still sits in my studio—hard to believe, given the quantity of Hydnellum wool that's waiting to be spun, wool that came out in the blue I wrote about earlier, as well as many hues of the lovely green I normally expect from this mushroom.

While I'm waiting for the mushrooms to start making an appearance in my Back Forty—our summer was a bit drier than we would like—I'll continue to spin my way through this fluffy bounty (more than what is shown in the above image).
A fledgling Phaeolus schweinitzii

In the meantime, this little guy greeted me the other day—one of several I’ve found so far—giving me hope for another good harvest year once the welcome rains finally start.
