Mushroom dyeing workshop

Rainbow of colour

These results of a mushroom dyeing workshop I gave in early November inspired me to create this blog as an easy way to share how we arrived at these gorgeous hues.

Over the next few weeks I plan to post images showing colours from the different mushrooms we used, along with more results of my own dyepots I’ve cooked up in the meantime.

  1. This is a beautiful collection of color and information. I started using mushrooms as dye only about a month ago and I LOVE it! So far I’ve really mainly been able to produce yellows, golds, and greens, but I keep on looking. Tomorrow I’m going out for Chroogompnus vinicolor which creates a pale pink when using only the caps with an alum mordant. Oh, so much to learn…
    Cheers!

    1. Be careful – you’re embarking on a slippery slope (or a rabbit hole, as one of my fellow spinners cautioned)! Yes, there’s so much to learn, and it’s all so fascinating, made more special by the relative shortness of mushroom season. Stay in touch – I’d like to hear more about your dyepots.
